This cafe is tucked in the very back of the Akebono district. Akebono is a small "neighborhood" of old military style housing that they refurbished into homes, cafes etc. Okinawa has two of these districts that I know of, Akebono of Uruma and Minatogawa of Urasoe (the bigger of the two).

Niwa's variety of american style seating adds quirky charm.
NIWA Cafe serves lunch, dinner and desserts. All are made with the freshest ingredients and many are locally grown, sometimes they even have farm stands to sell their home grown produce! I sat at this cafe for a few hours to enjoy the simple atmosphere, delicious food and write my last blog post. I have been here twice now and I will be returning for sure.

For lunch I had the cold pasta set. It included, a drink ( coffee, juice, tea) a perfect sized serving of cold pasta carbonara and simple lettuce salad. The pasta being cold threw me at first but it was great. My mouth is watering now just thinking of it. I ended my meal by having their homemade passion fruit and cheese tart! It was so good that I forgot to snap a picture.
NIWA also had regular hot spaghetti, and Croque monsieur on the lunch menu but it seems they change their meals based on the season and veggies available. The coffee is freshly ground to order and served with liquid raw sugar. I believe dinner is only served on Fridays and Saturdays evenings.

In true Japanese cafe fashion the owner, Maco, also sells boutique items such as local jewelry and pottery. And as if this little gem couldn't get any better, they offer cooking classes and creator/flea markets. Follow them on facebook to hear about any events being held. You can also follow Maco's fun photography on instagram.
The lemon tart I had at my first visit.

The Childrens room in located in the back with a built in play house that includes toy kitchenware to cook, a small table and chairs for the kids to enjoy too!
